We are a County controlled (Trafford LEA) co- educational school for pupils in the age range 3 to 11 years. Head Teacher: Mr Clive Searle
Packed full of historical facts and painstakingly researched from our school archive, the incredible story of Worthington is told in 98 pages of glorious technicolour. ‘The Story of Worthington School’ is now available from the school office priced £15 for a soft cover and £25 for a hardback keepsake. The author, Christopher King has tracked down the most fascinating information to bring the history of the school to life. The book is heightened by first-hand accounts, archive photographs and beautifully illustrated scenes by local artist, Rob Lenihan.
During the first 112 years of our school’s history, a great deal has happened. The school and those who have attended have gone through some sad and some very happy times. The school experienced devastation at the hands of the Luftwaffe, closure due to the Spanish Flu epidemic at the end of the First World War, and many other great events. But through it all, the resilience, fortitude and humour of our great school has shone out.
We are aware of the many thousands who regularly read our school website – please do contact school if you would like a copy, while we still have some left!
This afternoon, 17th November 2017, we have seen the culmination of our Enterprise Day. All the children in school have been preparing for our Children in Need giving day. This year we decided that we would link our giving to our drive towards enterprising thoughts and deeds.
In the main photograph, you can see baked goods on sale in the school’s main corridor. Some of our reception children, along with our Year 3 / 4 class, baked cakes yesterday and decorated them this morning. As you can see this has proved an extremely popular stall!
However, this cake stall is just one of many. We held a second hand book sale in our Year 6 classroom, a games room in Year 5, a toy sale in our Year 5 / 6 classroom, a biscuit decorating stall, a series of guessing games and even a chocolate fruit cocktail fountain!
All the money raised will go directly to the BBC’s Children in Need and we shall keep you posted as to the final amount we have raised today – just as soon as Mr Searle can tear himself away from the chocolate fountain!Getting Ready! Book Sale Toy Sale Chocolate Fountain Games Room
This afternoon (20/10/17) our special guests during assembly were two members of the Manchester Storm 1st Team. Canadians Shane Bakker and Matt Stanisz form part of the team that currently sit on top of the National League Table. Here they are sitting with one of our Year 1 pupils who plays for the Under Nines Storm Academy – and very happy they all look!
Shane and Matt captivated the whole school with their brilliant assembly and even found time to invite one of our Reception pupils to try on a full Ice Hockey strip.Trying on the Strip
The players have offered special opportunities to the children and their families to come down to a Manchester Storm match in the near future – something I am sure that many children will want to do.
Our warm thanks go to Shane and Matt for giving up some of their very valuable time to tell us more about this fascinating sport and answering all of the fabulous questions our children posed. The very best of luck to the team for the rest of the season!
It looks like Mr Searle got more than he bargained for when he accepted the challenge to be pampered after school last week. He certainly doesn’t look ready for all that’s going on!
If you are not like Mr Searle, and enjoy the pampering experience, then please do come along to our latest PTA Pamper Evening on Thursday 19th October, where there will be stalls a-plenty, as well as treatments to have on the night. Please see our ‘letters to parents’ page on our website to book your pampering.
There will be refreshments at the event and all ladies are welcome – please come along and bring your family and friends. All the treatments are provided by fully qualified and insured professionals just like the ladies attending to Mr Searle, who certainly looks happier in the second picture, now that his his curlers are in!A Happier Looking Headteacher!
Come along and soak up the atmosphere of a truly relaxing experience. Peruse the stalls selling products, gifts, food and drink from all corners of the globe. Meet with friends both familiar and new. We really hope to see you there!
